When it comes to choosing countertops, the amount of material available can often be overwhelming (especially when they all start to look the same!) As you can see, there are multiple stones that have a similar look, but both their buildup and qualities are very different. Can you decide which one of these stones is completely natural?
The first one! This is White Pearl granite. Granite is a 100% natural stone, usually with a 1 ¼” thickness. Two slabs of the same type of granite (especially from separate lots) could look very different because there is no guaranteed consistency with a natural stone. There are countless edge styles and colors available. The surface is typically polished, but can be brushed, honed or antiqued. Granite comes sealed and it is recommended to reseal it annually, however this varies greatly depending on the stone type. Granite is extremely tough, durable, scratch-resistant and extremely heat resistant; however, it is a porous material, giving it susceptibility to stains.
The next stone is Snow Flurry from Ice Stone. This is a 1 ¼” thick quartz material. Ice Stone is American-made with 3 ingredients: 100% recycled glass, portland cement, and pigment. All Ice Stone products are LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certified. They are also UV-resistant and will not fade in sunlight. There are 6 different edge styles available, and over 15 colors. The surface is polished. Ice Stone should be cleaned with a damp cloth and their recommended cleaner and recommends the stone be sealed and waxed before or during installation and resealed/waxed every 6-12 months. This product has a 10-year limited residential warranty. This is an excellent option if you are looking for a green product to use in your home.
The next is Mont Blanc from Silestone. This a 1 ½” quartz material, made in Spain with 94% pure natural quartz. Quartz is one of the hardest materials in the world, making it scratch, scorch and impact-resistant. This stone is a non-porous material, so it is highly stain-resistant. A unique feature to Silestone is its bacteriostatic protection, which helps to prevent the propagation of bacteria. This product is available in three different textures (polished, suede and volcano) and over 60 different colors. Because this is a man-made product, there is very high pattern-consistency from slab to slab. Silestone never needs to be sealed and it can be cleaned easily with soap and water. It is certified by Greenguard for having no harmful emissions of any kind. All Silestone counters come with a 15-year limited transferrable warranty.
Lastly, we have Snowdon White from Cambria. This a 1 ¼” quartz material (also available in 3/8” and 13/16”), made in America with 93% pure natural quartz. Cambria countertops are non-porous and non-absorbent, so you don’t have to worry about staining. This is a green product as well. Cambria ethically mines their quartz, recycles 100% of the water used in creation, recycles scrap material and is also certified by Greenguard for having no harmful emissions of any kind. Cambria never needs to be sealed and can be cleaned easily with soap and water. Cambria offers 19 edge styles and over 100 colors, with amazing pigmentation, depth and movement. Because this is a man-made product, there is a very high pattern-consistency from slab to slab. All Cambria counters come with a lifetime limited warranty.
